The historic market was a beloved local institution and a treasured landmark for the town. The Cobb-Depass family, who owns the store, also extended its condolences to the Godfrey family and the Town of Hodges.
Godfrey’s Market in Hosges, South Carolina is a local institution that has been in business for over fifty years. It was founded by Pete Godfrey and his brother, Frank. Sadly, Frank passed away a few months ago, but his brother, Pete, continues to operate the store. The market was burned in 2002, but was rebuilt soon after. It was then sold to Chip Tinsley, another Hodges resident.
Ninety Six National Historic Site
The Ninety Six National Historic Site, also known as Old Ninety Six and Star Fort, is located about 60 miles south of Greenville, South Carolina. The site is home to a collection of historic buildings, including a fort from the early 1700s.
Early in the Revolutionary War, the site became a Loyalist stronghold. The area was populated with people of Irish and Scots heritage. In 1780, the British fortified the area, which they considered strategically important. Major General Nathanae led an army of 1,000 men during a 28-day siege. Despite the intense fighting, the British never managed to capture the fort.

The main entrance is on the second floor level, with double doors. The Masonic Female College of South Carolina operated in the building from 1853 to 1874. From 1876 to 1918, the school was co-ed, and then a public school until 1954.
